About the speakers

Rhona O'Connell, Head of Metals Research and Forecasts

Rhona has over 35 years of experience as a commodities analyst, and is a recognised authority in the precious metals sector. She has worked as a metals market analyst in many aspects of the industry, including within the mining sector, at LME brokers Rudolf Wolf and in the equity markets. At Shearson Lehman Brothers in the late 1980s and early 1990s she was the group's precious metals analyst, which involved advising the trading desks and the investment banking division on the outlook for the precious metals markets.

The breadth of her experience means that she has a full understanding of the entire range of activities in the precious metals markets. She is now the Head of Metals Research and Forecasts for the GFMS division at Thomson Reuters, responsible for a team of 15 metals analysts.

Ross Strachan, Manager of Metals Demand-Europe

Ross has been covering the metals markets since 2004 when he joined CRU's aluminum team. Subsequently, he was made principal consultant covering copper for CRU Price Risk Management. In 2009, Ross joined the GFMS division at Thomson Reuters where he broadened his knowledge of metals by undertaking primary research internationally on gold, silver and PGMs. Between 2011 and 2013 Ross was a commodities economist where he played an integral role in launching and developing commodities coverage at Capital Economics.

In late 2013 he rejoined the GFMS division at Thomson Reuters where he now heads up metal demand research for Europe, the Americas and Africa in addition to maintaining the overall responsibility for the management of the team's gold analysis and output.

Cameron Alexander, Manager of Metals Demand-Asia and the Middle East

Cameron has more than 16 years of experience in the precious metals markets. Having joined GFMS division as a Metals Analyst in 2005, he was brought across to Thomson Reuters in a 2011 acquisition and now leads the Asian precious metals research within the GFMS division at Thomson Reuters. Prior to working at GFMS, he worked for over seven years with Australian based precious metals refiner AGR Matthey (Perth Mint) in the position of Commercial Manager.

In his current role he is responsible for the precious metals research across South East Asia, Australasia, the Middle East and the Indian Sub-Continent. His main area of research covers jewellery, industrial, and investment demand as well as scrap supply and metals flows.
