About the speakers

Dr Jochen Leidner, Director of Research, Thomson Reuters

Dr Jochen Leidner is Director of Research at Thomson Reuters and Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor of Data Analytics at the University of Sheffield.

He is a computer scientist and computational linguist by training, and he leads the London site of its global Corporate Research & Development organization, which he built up in 2013.

He joined Thomson Reuters in 2008 in various research capacities and has worked in the UK, Switzerland, and the US. Prior to that, he held a Royal Society Edinburgh Fellowship at the University of Edinburgh, where he was the Principal Investigator on a mobile question answering project. He also held founding roles in start-ups and worked as a software developer for SAP.

He holds a Master's degree in computational linguistics, English language and literature, and computer science from Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 2002 he obtained a Master of Philosophy in Engineering (MPhil) at the University of Cambridge in Computer Speech, Text and Internet Technologies. In 2007, he obtained a PhD in Informatics with his thesis 'Toponym Resolution in Text', which also won the First ACM SIGIR Doctoral Consortium Award. In 2015 and again in 2016, he was twice winner of the Thomson Reuters Inventor of the Year award for the best patent application across the company globally.

He has edited, authored or co-authored several dozen publications and over a dozen patent applications/patents. In 2016, his paper on social media mining of medical drug side effects won the 'Best Method Paper' award at the meeting of the Social Media Society in London. His research focuses on improving information access to or using textual data, especially information extraction, and question answering. He is also interested in methodology and ethics.

 

Reetu Khosla, Global Head of Client Lifecycle Management & KYC, Pegasystems Inc.

Reetu Khosla is currently the Global Head of Client Lifecycle Management - FS Technology Practice at Pega where she collaborates with global financial institutions, regulators, data providers, emerging technologies and consulting partners to identify future market trends and drive market-leading technology solutions across the client lifecycle, including RegTech, FinTech, digital transformation, AI and Robotics from large corporates through to retail banks. Her focus is on front to back office digital transformation and innovation for large complex FI’s. She has 20+ years of regulatory compliance and digital automation experience in the banking and financial markets sectors, specializing in technology innovation, front to back office transformation, anti-money laundering (AML) , KYC, sanctions, and other complex regulatory mandates (i.e. FATCA, CRS, Dodd-Frank, MiFID II, EMIR, FINRA rules), operations and management.

 

Mike Moreno, Senior Product & Content Manager, World-Check One - Media Check, Thomson Reuters.

Mike Moreno is the Senior Product & Content Manager for World-Check One - Media Check at Thomson Reuters. He leads the end to end product and content management for negative media screening solutions within the Risk & Compliance division. He has over 16 years of experience in textual content/web aggregation for various use cases ranging from Buy-side/Sell-side & Trading to Corporates.

Mike Moreno joined the Thomson Reuters Group in 2007 as part of the Reuters Group PLC acquisition. Previously he has worked within Asset Management and Banking delivering proprietary data & research workflow solutions. Mike also worked at Dow Jones Factiva for 6 years, during the inception of the joint venture between Reuters & Dow Jones and development and launch of the Factiva brand and news platform.

Jorg Schaper, Global Head of Proposition, KYC & Future Screening Platform

Jorg Schaper moved to Thomson Reuters following a 20 year career implementing change in tier one financial services companies, including Morgan Stanley, UBS, RBS and Deutsche Bank. Covering a wide portfolio of post trade processes Jorg has focused on improving operational efficiency though process, technology and organizational changes. Most recently Jorg has concentrated on delivering solutions to regulatory requirements that are compliant and efficient. At RBS and Deutsche Bank Jorg held management roles, responsible for the delivery of AML solutions. At Thomson Reuters Jorg is the global head for the Customer Risk business.
